Hi all,
I'm looking to upgrade our CallManager cluster from v6.1(2) to a later version (we have several 'bugs' that later versions allegedly fix). The problem is, there are quite a few versions of CUCM after 6.1(2), and nothing overly obvious on the Cisco site to explain which of these i should/shouldn't be trying to use...
http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/ImageList.x?relVer=6.1(3b)&mdfid=281023410&sftType=Unified+Communications+Manager+Updates&optPlat=&nodecount=11&edesignator=null&modelName=Cisco+Unified+Communications+Manager+Version+6.1&treeMdfId=278875240&modifmdfid=null&imname=&treeName=Voice+and+Unified+Communications&hybrid=Y&imst=N
6.1(2) (three versions)
6.1(3) (three versions)
Ought i to use 6.1(3) or a later release, perhaps 6.1(3b)...? There are also some "SUI" releases which confuse me too...
Anyone able to offer an explanation of what the differing versions of CUCM offer?

Hi Andy,
The latest 6.1(2) will of course have the most Bug fixes. These will be shown in the ReadMe notes that are attached with the Software Download pages. If you are ever planning on going to CUCM 7.x (which has proven to be an excellent build) keep this note in mind;
Caution: Be aware that you can not upgrade directly from Unified CM 6.1(3x) to Unified CM 7.0
See: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your best bet is to compare the release notes and ReadMe's for Communications Manager :)

Hope this helps!

Rob,
Thanks for the feedback - we have contacted out Cisco representative, and they are not aware of any limitations on the CUCM upgrade path. I checked the link you added, and i couldn't find a section stating that there was an upgrade limitation from 6.1(3x) to v7.0 [The link goes to a rather large Cisco page, so i might have missed it :o) ]
Could it be that an upgrade is viable to v7.1 (if that is soon to be released?) and therefore the limitation of going from 6.1(3x) to 7.0 will or has been resolved?

try 6.1(3) we no longer are releasing fixes for 6.1.2 all new bugs may be included in 6.1.3es

Hi Andy,
This has not been resolved in any CUCM 7.0 version. It is possible that the 7.1 versions will allow direct upgrades from CUCM 6.1(3). Here is the clip from the 6.1(3) release notes;
Release Notes for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 6.1(3)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated January 6, 2009

**Caution: Be aware that you can not upgrade directly from Unified CM 6.1(3) to Unified CM 7.0
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/6_1_3/cucm-rel_note-613.html
If you look in the supported Upgrade Paths in the first link that I sent you will also see that there are no upgrades shown from 6.1(3) to any of the current 7.x versions (it doesn't jump out but look closely :)
Hope this helps!
