Mapping Outbound VoIP Calls to Specific Digital Voice Ports

Just a general interest question...

I was reading this article on Cisco's site:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk90/technologies_configuration_example09186a00801c0a88.shtml#diag

and noted a comment at the end of the introduction below...

"This document demonstrates how to configure an analog H.323 gateway to route calls out to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) using specific DS0 ports based on the calling number of the IP phone that originated the call. Normally, a call sent to an analog gateway would have to use a hunt scheme to route calls out of the gateway, with no concern for which DS0 port is chosen to route the call outbound. In many cases, it is desirable for a specific DS0 port to be associated with a certain IP phone number so that calls going outbound only use that certain DS0 port instead of choosing a port randomly or based on some hunt method like "least idle.""

So my question is why (in the real world) would I ever want to do this? ie: Why would I want to map an outbound VoIP call to a specific digital voice port on a T1 or E1?

Hopefully someone can enlighten me?

TIA

Two companies sharing the premises and PBX, but each one has its own lines (digital or analog) for billing and numbering reasons.

There may be more reasons, believe me ..

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

one day a company got a 20 DID to be distributed on 20 employees, the company's manager requested that each one from the 20 employees to and only to use one port on E1 for his incoming and outgoing calls (20 employees->20 channels, E1 is 30 voice channels so remaining=10) so it's like that each employee from those 20 has his own port no one gonna to use it or make it busy, the remaining 10 channels to be used for all other employees who do not have DIDs so calls to all other employees to be hunted among these 10 channels!

yes it may seem not logical but since the customer is the king, we had to find a solution to this case, and we had this feature as a valid solution.

Hmmm... I get p.bevilacqua response but I this one confuse me a bit. I guess if the customer wants it you do what you have to do. Thanks to both.
