I have started discussions with a client about migrating them from CM/Unity 4.X to CUCM/Unity Connection 8.X. My plan is not to upgrade them from 4.X to 7.X to 8.X, but rather to migrate them from 4.X to 8.X by building a parallel VMware server along side the 4.X serevr and just re-enter the config parameters by hand into 8.X while looking at the 4.X screen. They have about 100 phones/users, so I think it would take less time this way than the stepped upgrade process.
My question is: could I use the BAT Export Data function on the 4.X and then use the BAT Import Data function on the 8.X and get most of my system and user configuration input that way? I assume that the database fileds are the same between versions even though the databases themselves are different.
Regarding Unity, I am not concerned about keeping any old voice mails messages. I would build the CUCM, then build the UC and import users from there.
Thanx,
Karl

Hi Karl,
I like your plan here and for 100 users should be perfect
The required fields in the BAT Export from 4.x and Import to 8.x have changed
significantly so a fair bit of legwork will be required there. Here are some great
references from 3 of my all-time faves;

Rob,
As I build the new CUCM/UC, I will be doing it in a Lab environment not attached to the production network. The UC will need to be integrated with AD. Can I integrate the UC with AD after I build it off-line?
Thanx

Yes, you can do the LDAP integration at any point in time.

one thing to keep in mind is that during installation you will need to be able to reach NTP source so ensure you have access to it from your lab.

Hi, not sure how you are getting along with the upgrade but there are lots of sites out there will little tips and gotcha's like Chris mentions above to make sure that your upgrade goes smoothly. Sorry if sucking eggs here. I took a complete image of the live system and worked through the DMA errors offline and made a list of the language's and duplications issues that had crept in over time. Also I am sure you are aware that during the DMA process / upgrade the CUCM solution requires that a new password and pin are set for your extension mobility users. We actually used a product from dominocomms to overcome that and restored approx 8,000 users pin's from CCM4 to CUCM7.1 without any issue. We reacon this saved us about 5 days of support calls, so if you have EM profiles then it might be worth considering.
