Moving phones from 6.1.2 to 8.6.2 - firmware

Hi all, just wondering what the best thing to do in the following scenario is. We are going to be migrating phones from our old 6.1.2 CUCM to a new 8.6.2 CUCM. Default loads for 7900 phones on 8.6.2 is 9.2.1. Reading the release notes for 9.2.1, it says:

For all SCCP firmware upgrades from firmware  release  versions earlier than 8.3(3) to version 9.2(1) or  greater, you must  first upgrade your firmware to an intermediate version (8.3(3)  -  8.5(2)) then upgrade to 9.2(1).

Our phones are currently running 8.4.4. Would we be okay to mass-migrate them all and let them upgrade directly to 9.2.1 or would we be better to upgrade to the latest 8.x (8.5.3) on CUCM6 before migrating them across?

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean

You should be find as you are in that case. Check all your phone models though if you have more than one type.

There's no point doing an interim load if you don't have to, just more opportunity to find bugs :-)

I like to verify the phones have upgraded, best done with a tool like my free jobbie that scans the phones to get their current firmware release (www.ipcommute.co.uk).
