Need Help with CallManager 8.0 upgrade to 8.5 on UCS B200

I'm having problem with upgrading callManager 8.0 to 8.5 on UCS.

I downloaded the upgrade image merged the three files and made one iso.

I did md5 check on individual files but cound't find the md5 value for combined iso file, so I couldn't check md5 on the final iso file.

So I did try two upgrading method.  One through dvd mounted on local lap top and other through sftp on windows 2008.

Both upgrade process starts fine, but failed after 30~40 minutes.

I've attached the error output generated when the upgrade failed!

Is there any services I need to turn off? before installation?

(someone mentioned that I had to turn off extension mobility, so I tried it, but still the upgrade failed)

Is there upgrade manual for call manager in UCS?

Any suggestion?

Thank you~

The following are the last line of error on failed upgrading (before vmware related output!)

Thanks again for taking your time looking at this~

Hi Thomas,

It looks to me that the wrong file is being used here;

02/14/2011 17:46:03 component_install|(CAPTURE) Attempt is made to upgrade Secure/Mixed Mode cluster to unrestricted mode, which is prohibited. You can upgrade non secured cluster to unrestricted mode.installdb Failure [-i] 1|<:DEBUG>

I think you are trying this file, which most builds won't use;

LOCAL_UCSInstall_UCOS_UNRST_8.5.1.11900-21.sgn.iso

it should be this one;

LOCAL_UCSInstall_UCOS_8.5.1.11900-21.sgn.iso

Cheers!

Rob

Thanks for reply, Rob.

Does this mean then I need to install restricted version of CallManager?

Because only two update iso that I can get from Cisco website is either restricted and unrestricted.

I had error when installing unrestricted, so restricted is the only option?

Also I thought, restricted is for export version only?

Thanks

Hi Thomas,

Your current 8.0(x) version is "Restricted" and you cannot upgrade from Restricted

to un-Restricted or vise-versa it just won't work

The Restricted version is the one that has been around forever and is what 95%

of us run. The un-Restricted version only came out with the release of CUCM 7.1(5)

and it contains many changes to encryption that allows it to be shipped/installed in certain

countries around the world where it was previously not allowed.

Cheers!

Rob

Thank you so much for your help, Rob~

Is there any way to upgrade to unrestricted version?

restricted version of 8.0.2 to unrestricted version of 8.5?

I remember when I did the install of 8.0.2, there was no option of installing neither of restricted or unrestricted

So I'm suprised to find out that my installation of 8.0 is restricted version..

Thanks

Hi Thomas,

If you really want to upgrade to the Unrestricted version

Upgrading to Unrestricted Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.5(1)

Note The unrestricted version of Unified CM 8.5(1) is available in limited markets only.

Be aware that after you install or upgrade to an unrestricted release, you can never upgrade to a restricted version. You will not even be allowed to fresh install a restricted version on a system that contains an unrestricted version.

This section includes the following information:

Installing the Unrestricted COP File

To see if your current version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager is compatible with the unrestricted version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.5(1), see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html

Installing the Unrestricted COP File

Before you upgrade from Compatible Versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.1(3x), 6.x or 7.x to unrestricted Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.5(1), install the unrestricted COP file (ciscocm.allow_upgrades_to_unrestricted.cop.sgn) that you can find under:

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Version 8.5 -> Unified Communications Manager / CallManager / Cisco Unity Connection Utilities -> COP-Files

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_5_1/cucm-rel_notes-851.html#wp1840177

Cheers!
