NIM-4FXO and dspfarm configuration

Kyle Morrison

Hi

I have a new ISR4331 and trying to configure per recommendations from a senior colleague.

Suggested config:

voice-card 0/1
dspfarm
dsp services dspfarm
dsp tdm pooling

However, I do not see any dsp parameters under the voice card.   Do I need a specific feature set to run the DSP's?

spo-rfiridium-vgw2(config)#voice-card 0/1
spo-rfiridium-vgw2(config-voicecard)#?
Voice-card configuration commands:
codec         Manage codec configuration parameters for voice card
default       Set a command to its defaults
exit          Exit from voice card configuration mode
  local-bypass  Enable TDM hairpinning
no            Negate a command or set its defaults

You cannot configure "dspfarm" for pooling etc. If you need to use a PVDM card for media resources on a ISR-4k, you need to have them on the motherboard. Leftover dsp channels from a NIM T1/E1 can be used as part of media resources but not from a NIM FXO/FXS.

Hi Kyle,

is the voice card slot correct ? Can you share the output of below commands to check that.

sh diag
sh inv

Also you need to enter "dsp services dspfarm" first followed by "dspfarm" not in the reverse order.

Have you installed DSP on the motherboard or NIM. In 4331, the card should
be installed on the NIM to be used for PSTN

The DSP's are onboard.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/4000-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/datasheet-c78-733646.html

"The FXO, FXS, E/M, and BRI NIMs contain an onboard DSP and don't require the router to have dedicated packet voice DSP module (PVDM) on the motherboard."

Thats matching what I am trying to say. Open the router and confirm that
you see DSP in the NIM not on the motherboard

Doesn't the output of 'show voice dsp' indicate that the DSP's are on FLEX VOICE CARD 0/1 and not the motherboard?

I'm only slightly familiar with voice configs and hardware, and I've never worked with a NIM-4FXO.

The router is very remote, I'll try to get to it tomorrow.

How about the technology package or suite of IOS? Is that an issue, based on the show ver I posted?

Thank you

You don't need a separate PVDM for FXO cards on the ISR-4k. They are embedded on the card itself and no, you won't be able to see them/replace them like a NIM-T1/E1. AFAIK none of the outputs will show a PVDM on the FXO card.

The PVDM on this FXO cannot be used for anything else.

I'm not looking to replace them. The DSP's are on the NIM-4FXO. I want to configure 'dspfarm' on the voice card in slot 0/1. There are no dsp options under voice-card config. Is there somewhere else to configure this parameter?
