NME-CUE error

I have a 2821 router running CME ver 4.1. For voice mail, i have NME-CUE which seems to have failed. "service-module integrated-service-engine 1/0 status' command shows the module as 'failed'. I tried resetting, reloading and everything possible excpet for reseating the module. Assuming that the hardware has failed, what option do I have now? I think NMEs are not even sold these days but assuming one is available, what exactly do I need to buy?

Appreciate your help. Thanks

Hi,

I would want to correct my statement here:

For the CUE (NME-CUE) they have migeration licenses, here is the link so you would need not buy them

If you would want to buy more than the existing ones that you have, then you would need to purchase them:

https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/Quickstart

Here is a link regarding the CUE licenses:

Hi ,

If a reload or reset did not work, if you do have TAC support try getting the Module replaced.

The module must have failed.

NME-CUE are still in production are available in ISR-G1 and ISR-G2:

Product Migration Options

For  the Cisco Unity Express Network Module (NM-CUE and NM-CUE=),customers  are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Unity Express Enhanced Network  Module (NME-CUE and NME-CUE=) equivalent products. For the Cisco Unity  Express Network Module Enhanced Capacity (NM-CUE-EC and  NM-CUE-EC=),customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Unity  Express Enhanced Network Module (NME-CUE and NME-CUE=) along with  additional port licenses. To get an equivalent product, please order 4 x  SCUE-LIC-PORT-2 for a total of 16 ports (8 included in the NME-CUE and  4x2 ports additional). Information about this product can be found at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps5745/ps5520/product_data_sheet0900aecd806aefe4.html.

Thank you Kevin. Your response was very helpful. I have one more question related to the CME and the NME-CUE that I will get replaced. We are running CME ver 4.1 and not sure what version of CUE was there prior to the NME-CUE failure. If I want to upgrade my CME to at least ver 8.x, (IOS 15.1.x) what would be the licensing requirement? Do I have to get the license? Does NME-CUE comes pre-installed with certain version of CUE? Do I need the licenses (VM, Port)?

Thank you

Hi,

If you are upgrading the CME to 8.X you would need make sure your UCK9 license are permanant.

show version output:

Technology Package License Information for Module:'c2900'

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Technology    Technology-package           Technology-package

              Current       Type           Next reboot

------------------------------------------------------------------

ipbase        ipbasek9      Permanent      ipbasek9

security      securityk9    Permanent      securityk9

uc            uck9          Permanent      uck9

data          None          None           None

if this is permanent then you need to download the ios and upload it the flash and reload the router.

Here is the CME/CUE compatibilty matrix:
