No transmit using Jabber with new Lenovo laptop

Spoiler

I don't know why 'Spoiler' appears instead of my post.

I had Jabber working on my Windows 10 Lenovo laptop. Over the weekend that laptop's keyboard became defective, so I bought a replacement Lenovo laptop. With the new Windows 11 laptop, there's no transmit. The microphone works fine with Google Voice and Teams, just not with Jabber. Did the usual, checked/verified audio settings, de-installed and re-installed Jabber. I configure the accounts for others routinely at work. I'd occasionally get a trouble like mine, but that was when our VPN was required to use it remotely - and the user didn't have it running, but it's no longer required.
I tried it with the VPN anyway, no luck.

I can use Jabber with a Bluetooth headset, and one of two Bluetooth speakers if I set the Audio settings accordingly. It's not a big deal, I have a company laptop I can use for Jabber but I don't always bring it home and I don't work from home often. It's just bugging me why it won't work. I know this is more of a computer question/situation, but thought I'd post it here if by chance anyone else has experienced this.

I’m trying to understand your problem. Are you saying that you can’t hear what the other parties are saying through your headphones, or is it that they can’t hear you?

What happens if you use the laptop’s mic and speakers instead of the headphones? Can you hear each other both ways?

If the issue is resolved when not using the headphones, you might need to update the Windows driver for your headset and give it another try.

No, no transmit - I can't be heard. And the trouble is not when using the headphones. The trouble is when using the laptop's microphone. I can hear through the laptop's speakers. When I connect a Bluetooth headphone and set Jabber's audio settings to use that, I can be heard and hear. Same with one of two Bluetooth speakers, one works both ways.

I can successfully do a Teams call with the laptop's microphone, speakers (and camera). I can also use Google Voice successfully with the laptop's microphone and speakers. The preference with Jabber is to use the laptop's microphone and speakers.

As expected, a USB headset works - transmit and receive. I noticed though, with the headset connected or disconnected, I can't send DTMF from Jabber. From the same laptop I can with Google Voice, as well as use the laptop's internal microphone.

Suddenly - it now works with the laptop's microphone. Happened to work from home today and thought I'd try it. No changes done to the laptop or Jabber settings.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Check Jabber Audio Settings: Open Jabber and go to the settings. Under the audio section, ensure that the correct microphone and speakers are selected.

  2. Verify Permissions: Make sure Jabber has access to your microphone. In Windows, go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone, and confirm that Jabber has permission to use it.

  3. Update Jabber and Windows: Make sure both Jabber and Windows 11 are fully updated, as outdated software or drivers can cause compatibility issues.

  4. Run Audio Troubleshooter: Windows 11 offers built-in troubleshooters. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and select Playing Audio or Recording Audio. This can automatically detect and fix any audio-related issues.

  5. Reinstall Audio Drivers: Go to Device Manager > Sound, video, and game controllers. Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

  6. Try Compatibility Mode: Since you're on Windows 11, try running Jabber in compatibility mode for Windows 10. Right-click on the Jabber shortcut, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose Windows 10.

  7. Check for Interference from Antivirus or Firewall: Sometimes, security software can block Jabber's access to the microphone. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus and check if the problem persists.

AI? It is resolved. Did all that initially except 6. and 7. and worked previously with other apps and Google Voice. There have been updates to my laptop over the last few months though, and this is the first time I tried it this year.
