I have a customer requirement where the receptionist will be using Attendant Console. The customer would like end users to be able to specify on their phone that they are not available, and specify their status, such as, out to lunch, in a meeting, on vacation... This status should display on the Attendant Console.
My customer is running CUCM v6.1 without Presence, and without any "soft client". They will be adding a new location with this requirement to their existing cluster. The customer's current legacy PBX has this capability today.
Has anyone addressed a similar requirement without a soft client and Presence? Any suggestions?

Unfortunately CUCM does not provide any of what you ask natively, also don't believe you could get this into AC, as the status notification on legacy AC doesn't go that far.
If possible this would mean you would need to write your own xml service, provide the options so a user could select it and also have users check your service for the status of other phone.
What your customer is asking is what CUPS is for.

Thanks Java.
We will be retiring the legacy PBX at this location as this site will migrate to IPT with SRST.
Presence would give the end user the ability to specify status messages via their IP Phone (7942 for example)?

No. CUPS works with a desktop client to provide this functionality. Check out the data sheet: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps6836/ps6844/data_sheet_c78-595524.html
