Prefix Digits (Outgoing Calls)

We have to dial 9 for outside calls. Our desk phones are Model: CP-7841

I found that you could not simply call outside numbers back using the "Recents" button on the phone. Clicking on "Recents" > Highlighting the number > and pressing the enter button would result in an intercept message "The call cannot be completed as dialed"

This is because we have to enter a 9 before the number to call out. My boss was the first to complain about this. I found I can fix this by entering a "9" for the "Prefix Digits (Outgoing Calls)" field under the "Calling Party Transformations" section in the "Translation Pattern Configuration" page.

So basically I went to the Cisco Unified CM Administration site, went to "Call Routing" > "Translation Pattern" > found my boss number and clicked on it > and edited the appropriate field

Also, this was answered in post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11388886/add-9-calls-placed-call-history-cucm-86

My real question is how can I apply this to everyone's phone without doing it manually for every user?

I know about the Bulk Administration Tool. I have gone to our Cisco Unified CM Administration site > "Bulk Administration" > "Import/Export" > "Export"

Put in a name for my .tar file name under "Job Information" and under "Select Items to Export" I have filled in the check for "Calling Party Transformation Pattern" under the "Call Routing Data" section. I run the job immediately. Go to "Bulk Administration" > "Job Scheduler" > click find and see that my job has completed. Go back to "Bulk Administration" > "Upload/Download Files" > and select my file and download it.

I open the .tar file. Two files are there. The "header.txt" file and "callingpartytranspattern.csv" file. I open "callingpartytranspattern.csv" and see the column labeled "PREFIX DIGITS_OUTGOING CALLS". I place the number 9 under this column and save the .csv file and re-zip this. Now there is where I don't know where to go next.

Is this the preferred method of modifying existing users? Am I in going in the right direction? Even if I do upload this .tar back up to CUCMA, where do I basically tell the CISCO server/console to overwrite every "Calling Party Transformation" section for every phone with the values in the "callingpartytranspattern.csv"?

Thanks for any help

Franz,

the answer to this  is; it depends.

probably the easiest thing to do is to prefix a 9 to the caller ID of every PSTN call coming into any of your gateway (using translations on the IOS gateway). This is typically how I prefer to do it as it will cater for SRST as well.

alternatively set it on the gateways 'incoming calling party settings" and prefix a 9.

really there are dozens of ways this can be achieved, and there is no right way or wrong way, it all depends of what best suits your solution.  But again I prefer to do it on a gateway level.

Thanks for your speedy response. I will let you know when I make the changes if that helps.

Sorry for the long time in between responses.

That did not help unfortunately. I went to our Cisco Unified CM Administration page, went to System > Service Parameters > chose our Server and Cisco CallManager for the service > Clicked on Advanced at the top to expand the Advanced settings > and under the Clusterwide Parameters (Device - Phone) section put a "9" in the field labeled "Incoming Calling Party National Number Prefix - Phone"

Also, under that same section "Incoming Calling Party Number Prefix - Apply To" is set to "All"

Can you please explain what you mean by

using translations on the IOS gateway

Hi Dennis,

I went to our Cisco Unified CM Administration page, went to System > Service Parameters > chose our Server and Cisco CallManager for the service > Clicked on Advanced at the top to expand the Advanced settings > and under the Clusterwide Parameters (Device - Phone) section put a "9" in the field labeled "Incoming Calling Party National Number Prefix - Phone"

That did not help though unfortunately. We have a hundred some phones so doing them on each device would be a pain, and I'm not even sure where you would apply a 9 prefix for each line. Please help.
