PRI Circuit on VWIC2-1MFT-G703

                   Hi Everyone,

Can we add PRI circuits on these WAN card's VWIC2-1MFT-G703 , VWIC3-1MFT-G703 ? Document says it supports unstructured/unchannelized E1 . Not sure if Voice is only supported via drop and insert config or timeslots can be also configured.

Datsheet tells that T1/E1 are supported not sure if only data mode or voice PRI circuits.

I have never seen G703 WAN card used for PRI circuits, standard cards used are VWIC2/3-1/2MFT-T1/E1.

Can anyone please confirm this ?

Regards,

Pankaj Malhotra

Yes.

Thanks Paolo for the prompt Response.

So these PRI circuits can be configured on these cards as per you.

By looking at such a straight reply, I hope you have configured many on these cards

Cheers!!

Hi Pankaj,

As far as these G.703 cards are concerned, they are used to support unstructured E1 along with D & I facility where some of the time slots can be used for Data and other time slots can be used for Voice.

redgs,

aman

Thanks Paolo, i will definetly rate this but i am getting replies which are confusing me.

Thanks Aman, yes the kind of config you are talking about is called drop and insert , where data is sent over certain allocated channels and voice over channels left in TDM-Group mode.My concern was to clarify if pure PRI circuit can be configured or not on this, from your answer it looks like it cannot be and Paolo is pretty confident on this one.

Paolo, have you configured this in past.

Regards,

Pankaj Malhotra.

Hi Pankaj,

There is a correction the card would be different. that would be D & I card.

G.703 card would support E1 in unframed mode but I am not confident that this card would support Voice PRI.

aman

It does. It's even written in documentation.

As answered to you already above: the card supports voice.

Hi Paolo,

Thanks again.

On the basis of my research and your inputs. I accept your reply as an answer.

Here is the link which states that PRI group is supported on multiflex trunks

Second-Generation 1- and 2-Port T1/E1 Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Cards Key Features

The second-generation 1- and 2-port T1/E1 multiflex trunk voice/WAN interface cards have the following key features:

Full support for T1 Facility Data Link (FDL)

Controller local loopbacks

Controller remote loopbacks

RFC 1406 and integrated CSU/DSU MIB

MIB and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) management

Firmware to support T1 and E1 Layer 1 homologation

User-initiated VWIC reset and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) download

Voice support (includes DS0-group and PRI-group configuration)

Table 1http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/12_2z/12_2zj/feature/guide/gthwecan.html#wp1095238 lists the names and descriptions of the modules available for this feature.

Module Name1

Description

VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1

1-port RJ-48 multiflex voice/WAN trunk (T1/E1)

VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1

2-port RJ-48 multiflex voice/WAN trunk (T1/E1)

VWIC2-1MFT-G7032

1 These baseboards can also provide hardware echo cancellation if there is a daughter card (EC-MFT-32 or EC-MFT-64) mounted on the baseboard. For more information, refer to the Voice Port Configuration Guide on Cisco.com.

2 Although unstructured G.703 operation is particular to E1 operation, the VWIC2-1/2MFT-G703 cards also support structured T1 operation.
