reserve partial E1 channels - VoiceGateway(MGCP)

hi All,

We have a single E1 line (30channels). & have a requirement to reserve/dedicate 10 channels for the call center agents. The rest of the company can make use of the remaining 20 channels.

Is that possible? if so, how can this be done? im using CUCM 10.5 and MGCP voice gateway

Reason being, we are afraid that all 30 channels will be used up by the rest of the company, and that leaves the call center agents without available lines for incoming calls.

Appreciate any advise

Hi,

It doesn't seem possible with MGCP, you can however achieve the same using H323 , please check the following links

In addition to the information provided by Manish, you also need to be aware that trunk groups configuration only affects outbound calls. You can't reserve channels for inbound calls.

A possible config, which is not the best thing to have, and depends on your current config regarding codecs/locations, is to configure the GW in another region, and set the BW limit to only allow X number of calls from the IP Phones region.

But then again, as Deji points out, you'd still have no control over inbound with any config.
