Serial Number on VG248

Is there a way to determine the SN of a VG248 through the menu driven shell?  If not, is there a way to bypass the menu system (without rebooting) and drop down to a cli for manual commands like 'sh ver'?  Cisco is stating that the SN in the management GUI and the SN on the sticker on the chassis itself is not valid.

Any help is appreciated.

I would say this mismatch seems to be a common issue;

From the cli;

Display> System status> shows

        |        Ethernet MAC address: 00-19-55-68-fe-c1  

The sticker on the same device shows s/n SAD104107GT

and here is a second example;
