Software CUBE MTPs remain in state "ACTIVE IN PROGRESS".

Hi to everyone.

Below is the configuration done in 44XX router which has CUBE functionality enabled.

dspfarm profile 1 transcode
codec g711alaw
codec g729r8
codec g711ulaw
maximum sessions 100
associate application CUBE
!
dspfarm profile 2 mtp
codec g711ulaw
maximum sessions software 100
associate application CUBE
!
dspfarm profile 3 mtp
codec g711alaw
maximum sessions hardware 100
associate application CUBE

Profile 1 and 3 are in state "ACTIVE" but profile 2 remains in state "ACTIVE IN PROGRESS" as you can see below from the "show dspfarm profile" command.

Can someone please explain me why software  MTPs with associate application CUBE in profile 2 are not in state "ACTIVE"?

Does this mean that they are not working?

Why should I use MTPs with associate application CUBE and not associate application sccp? What is the difference in functionality and usage of these 2 ?

Thanks in advance!!

Why have three profiles doing exactly the same thing?  I also don't really understand why you need an MTP associated to the CUBE.

On the difference between associate CUBE vs SCCP, associating with the CUBE means the resource is only available to the CUBE for its own functionality.  Associating via SCCP allows the resource to be registered with an other entity, for example CUCM, and that entity can use the resource for what it wants, and not necessarily just for calls passing through the CUBE.

Hi Tony.

What do you mean 3 profiles doing the same exact thing? Profile 1 is Transcoding and profiles 2, 3 are MTPs with different codecs.

No matter what please do not focus on why did I put this exact configuration because it was made for lab purposes in order to see the differences, and clarify the below:

1. Why does the MTP software CUBE remain in state "ACTIVE IN PROGRESS" while the MTP hardware CUBE goes in state "ACTIVE".

2. What is the difference of CUBE hardware/software MTPs and SCCP hardware/software MTPs. I know that the CUBE hardware/software MTPs register in CUBE and the SCCP hardware/software MTPs register in CUCM but in which case should the CUBE MTPs be used.

I know the difference and usage of LTI Transcoding versus SCCP Transcoding but what exactly is the difference in CUBE MTP and SCCP MTP configured in a Cisco Router.

AFAIK only the hardware MTP is supported by CUBE.

You could do all this with one transcoding profile, this can do the transcoding and also act as an MTP.

AFAIK Cube cannot handle registration of software based MTPs. It is only equipped to handle hardware based media resources.
