Dwayne,

You can upgrade directly to 8.6 from cucm 6.1.4, you hardware is supported on CUCM8.6.2. However it is important to note this..You must install COP File ciscocm.refresh_upgrade_v1.1.cop.sgn before you upgrade to any 8.6(x) or higher release from any 8.5(x) or earlier release.

Since this is a refresh upgrade, it is service impacting. Your CUCM server will reboot and this upgrade will take a long time. You should factor this into your plans and not carry out this upgrade during normal work hours.

You should also ensure you have your licenses in place as you will need new licenses for CUCM8.6

Hi Dwayne,

If you check out Table 34 of the CUCM Compatibility Matrix we see that

CUCM 8.6(2) will set the device Defaults on the 7941's and 7911's to firmware

version 9-2-1.

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr1.pdf

We also note, that your 7941's are @ 8-5-2sr1s so they would

be good to go. But the 7911's are @ 8-3-2s so they would need an incremental

firmware upgrade prior to moving to CUCM 8.6(2) and trying to load 9-2-1

Firmware Upgrade Issues for SCCP

Note For all SCCP firmware upgrades from firmware release versions earlier than 8.3(3) to version 9.2(1) or greater, you must first upgrade your firmware to an intermediate version (8.3(3) - 8.5(2)) then upgrade to 9.2(1).

Note This  section applies to the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975G, 7971G-GE, 7970G,  7965G, 7962G, 7961G-GE, 7961G, 7945G, 7942G, 7941G-GE, 7941G, 7911G, and  7906G.

Hey Guys

I should have mention it is a publisher/subscriber so I am trying to limited down time as possible. So I want to upgrade the pulisher first then the subscriber. If I upgrade the firmware on the 7911 phones to 8-5-2 before I upgrade the CUCM to 8.6.2 will the phones still work on the subscriber running (CUCM 6.1.4)?

Thank you for your useful contributions

Hi Dwayne,

First off, you are most welcome

Yes, Firmware 8-5-2 is fully supported on CUCM 6.1(4) so

that would be just fine.
