Hey folks!
This is more of a just being sure kind of question, but when I tell the system to swap from lets say firmware 10.3.xx to 11.0.xx for the 8811's, will leaving the "Device Pool" field at Default and the "Phone Template" field at Standard 8811 SIP work to swap ALL 8811 phones currently registered with our call manager?
I already have the firmware in the tftp server and everything good to go, but I want to ensure that every 8811 connected will swap over. I only ask because I tried this once before and it looks like I specified a device pool and phone template so only those phones in "X" device pool and with "Y" phone template got the newer firmware.
Just want to make sure I can get the rest of them this time.
Thanks in advance!

Sean, your understanding is absolutely correct that once you will specify the new load name 11.0.xx in the Device Defaults leaving Device Pool and Phone Template as Default and Standard 8811 SIP respectively then all the 8811 phones should upgrade to this new FW. You can also verify this by doing below and the entry next to 8811 should show None if all of your 8811 devices are using Default FW loads:
Choose Device > Device Settings > Firmware Load Information.
The page updates to display a list of device types that require firmware loads. For each device type, the Devices Not Using Default Load column links to configuration settings for any devices that use a non-default load.
To view a list of devices of a particular device type that are using a non-default device load, click the entry for that device type in the Devices Not Using Default Load column.
The window that opens lists the devices of a particular device type that are not running the default firmware load.

Awesome! So even if they are using non default phone templates, they will swap over? Or do I need to change them to the default first? I know we have quite a few that have different templates.

It will be good to change the phone template to the default as well since it will be much easier to change them back once the phones take the new FW load opposed to face any issues during FW upgrade which might arise if you leave the phone template to use non default for some of the phones there. The reason for this is I have never done this myself with a combination of DP being at Default and Phone Template to be something else hence I am not very sure if it takes both these thing into consideration or only the DP setting. Hence, just to be on the safer side change the Phone Template to use default one for the required phones and once the FW update had been done simply change them again.
