Time of Day Call Routing

I am trying to configure a solution for schools in the K-12 environment. Basically, I want all calls that originate from PSTN to be sent straight to the teacher's voicemail box during business hours and ring the phone after hours. But I need internal calls to ring the phone during business hours. This is to keep disruption in the classroom to a minimum while students are present but still allow administrative staff to call and reach a teacher.

In this particular instance, all external calls are sent to a call handler on Unity Connection. During the greeting, if you know the extension of the person you want to reach, you can enter that at any time and be routed directly. That's where we run into the problem of parents or students calling in and disrupting the classroom.

I thought I could accomplish this with a translation pattern and time of day routing. I created a pattern that would prepend the directory number with an asterisk and send it straight to voicemail. I put this in a partition that was higher in the order of partitions than the teacher's DN partition in the CSS and put it on a time schedule. The problem is that my pattern has wildcards so it is ignored for the explicit match in the partition below it. If I change the translation pattern to match a single number it works like a charm, but I need this to work for an entire group of numbers. Even with urgent priority checked on the pattern, it still takes the explicit match rather than the pattern containing wildcards.

I know this isn't an outlandish request from the customer. But how can I accomplish it?

Thanks in advance for any guidance here.

Scott,

An easier method is probably to send all these Calls to Unity Connection and use Open/Closed settings to either transfer the call to the teacher or send it to voicemail.

The date/time groups are much easier to manage in Unity Connection.  It also makes it more simpler to implement holidays.
