UCM - Move publisher?

Hi,

we have a UCM 8.6 setup with 1x publisher & 2x subscribers at different sites.
We need to move the publisher to another rack at the same site (no config needed)
Last time we tried this, we had a devil of a job getting things back to normal which seemed to take a couple of hours rather than the time it took to move the publisher and it to come back up. I wasn't heavily involved with this so not quite sure what went on and why it was so difficult.

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of by taking the publisher offline for 10 minutes etc?

Louis

Hi,

there is no problem to shutdown the Publisher during 10min ... my recommendation, remove the Publisher Ethernet cable and check the result ...if there is no problem then you should shutdown the Publisher otherwise try to check what is happening ...

Hope this helps.

Hi,

During Pub outage, the following services will continue working:

    - Call processing
    - Failover
    - Registration of previously configured devices

Also, the following user service features will be running:

- CFA

- MWI

- DND

- Privacy ON/OFF

- EM Login

- Monitor

- Hunt Group Logout

- Device Mobility

- CTI and CAPF

- Digest Authentication

Configuration changes and other services will be impacted as they are written to PuB DB.

Now, I suggest before you proceed to make sure that Pub is listed in the bottom of CUCM Group. Also, from your phone verify that it is registered with Sub 1 or 2. On 79xx this can be seen from Settings > UCM Configuration.

Also, follow the guide lines from they guys as they are very useful

Thanks for all the replies to allay my fears. Not sure what happened last time as I wasn't closely involved. I took Marcelo's recommendation and just pulled the 2 cables at the back of the UCM and left it disconnected for 30 minutes and there were no adverse effects.

But all good replies which I will be using a part from every one of them. Thank you.

Louis,

Couple of things that you need to take care of:

1) Since publisher will be down for 10 minutes or whatever, no configuration changes will be possible using Subscriber servers during that time. Hence, if you think there might be some during the time when publisher is down then probably do it before taking the pub down

2) Make sure that the CM group has the subscriber 1 and 2 in the list else there will be phone registration issues

3) In case if agents use EM, make sure that you have a service pointing to the subscriber CM as well since the one pointing to Pub will not work during the time when Pub is down

4) Do a graceful shutdown of the CUCM Pub i.e., utils system shutdown and once it goes off completely then only move it to another rack

5) Once the publisher had been moved to the new rack, start it up from the ESXi host and then issue the utils dbreplication runtimestate command to make sure replication had been setup properly again amongst all the server

I hope it will be a smooth transition this time.

Regards

Deepak
