We have a large VOIP installation running at our large sites (2500+ phones) and we rolled it out to a half dozen smaller sites that have 10-20 phones. At our remote sites we have always used ASA 5505s with qos and 3750X (or 3750V2) switches along with an SRST for outbound backup and 911 calls when our main CCMs were not accessible. (Internet outages).
As we get to smaller sites, it is not frugal to install a 3750x or V2 and SRST for 5 or less phones and our phone tech wants to make sure he can still have an elin for the site for 911 calls configured in our CER for when the CCMs are communicating. Is there a cheaper solution out there that can perform QOS over the Internet, provide communications with the CER for an elin (I suppose I could use a subnet setup for each site for that config) and also provide for an SRST type failover for 911 calls at least? We have a cheap Verizon wireless solution that will substitute for the POTs analogue line (copper no longer needed) but the SRST functionality is a required for the 911 issue. Even a small 2901 is not cheap and we have only used 29xx/39xx routers in our setups.
Is there a cheap box made for this type of scenario? 911 location during normal CCM connections and SRST functionality for 911 are the main concerns.
Thanks

Hi,
The smallest routers with Voice Cards and SRST capability are the 880 series. These will support up to 4 IP Phones. The next model up would be the 1861 which can support up to 15 IP Phones. All of them should support QoS, but as you are traversing the WWW QoS would be of no use any way. As soon as the packets leave your router they are on a best effort service to get to where they are going. Hope this helps.
Thanks
Rob

You can use the 881V model of cisco routers to perform voice actions.
