What will happen to existing DLU when upgrade from CUCM 6.14 to 8.5?

Dear Support Community,

We are planning to upgrade our CUCM from version 6.14 to 8.5. Question is does all the exisitng DLU get migrated and converted to the new User Device License? We have a total of 8000 DLU but we only have 1400 IP phones which utilize 6000 of the DLU.

Our Cisco reseller quoted us 1400 unit of MIG-CUCM-USR. Will we end up with only 6000 DLU in the new CUCM 8.5?

Thanks.

Upgrade will keep all DLUs intact.

1400 migration UCLs will actually add additional 2 DLUs per user for a total of 2800 DLUs, so you are going to end up with a total of of 10800 DLUs. The extra two DLUs per user is to make sure you have enough DLUs for new features.

DLUs are all the same in CM 8.0 and 8.5

UCL that you are referring to is just a new way of how you order DLU's after in CM 8.x, but you still see DLU's in the licensing page on the callmanager. In the future it might change.

Hi Roman,

Thanks for the answer, which what I'm looking for. Do you have any idea why we need to purchase 1400 unit of MIG-CUCM-USR if the DLU would be carried over? WIll I be limited to 1400 devices even though I had 8000 DLU?

Thanks Roman. Appreciate the fast response.

The MIG-CUCM-USR list price is only USD$3. Each of that will give you 2 DLU? That's very generous of Cisco considering the list price of 10 DLU is USD$500!

The $3/user is a promotion they have to get customers to migrate, and it of course requires 3 years of UCSS (additional $ per user), ensuring you'll stay loyal for next 3 years. Generousity comes with a catch

The extra two DLUs is for Cisco to make sure you can enable any extra features like mobile connect.

Thanks Roman, your knowledge on this topic is astounding.

no problem good luck!
