Hi,
I have a scenario like this...
PSTN----h323VG---CCM---IP Phone.
My VG is in a Different region to my IP phones and I have setup g.729 as the codec between inter regions.
For xcoding, I have setup a xcoder on one of my gateways ( this gateway is configured for mgcp..i believe this does not matter).
I have assighed my xcoder to the MRGP where my IP phones are.
The problem is that the xcoder does not work.
When a call comes in from the pstn to the VG and the VG attempt to dial the Phone I get a capability reject message because the gateway is still trying to use g.711 and ccm is sending g729.
How can I resolve this xcoder issue..
Attached is my xcoder config and h.323 gateway config...

I think that you should assign voice class coded instead coded in you dial-peer configuration. add to all your codec lists full codec list, for example:
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g729br8
codec preference 2 g729r8
codec preference 3 g729ar8
codec preference 4 g729abr8
codec preference 5 g711ulaw
You don't need xcode, h323 gateway can send directly g729 to ipphones.

I have tried this already and it works fine.
I am just wondering why the xcoder is not working..Is it because is an h.323 gateway ?

add the XCODER to the MRGL from the GW and phones and try again
