Unable to Use 200Mbps MPLS L3 Link As Primary

We recently installed a 500Mbps MPLS service at our HQ connecting  several locations, at the remote sites we also have several 50Mbps VPLS service  with another provider,. Currently both locations are operating great with one minor setback, we are unable to utilize the newly installed  service unless we disconnect our original VPLS service or  the locations goes offline, I  am uncertain as to why we are not able to utilize both links simultaneously or use the larger links as primary.

The routing protocol being used is OSPF

MPLS service is layer3

In order to provide you more concise details a topology of your network is required as recomended by @balaji.bandi. however you may use the below details to jump start your diagnosis and possibly it may lead you to the solution you are looking for.

Based on the fact that you have established connectivity with both links / providers via  OSPF I would say that you are 90% complete with your routing.

Please provide feedback on each recomended steps

1. Do a show ip route ospf - routes via both providers should appear as intra/inter  area routes, if they do it will be a matter of adjusting your bandwidth /cost per each interface to achieve your goal of routing to your preferred provider.

IF routes appear as an external E1 / E2 routes it simply means that the redistribution process being done by your MPLS provider is the issue here. The rule of thumb is inter/intra routes will always be preferred over External, the speed or cost of the link is not taken into consideration here.

Solution for E1/ E2 Routes in your OSPF Routing Table

To resolve this you may contact your provider and explain the issue  you are having, the carrier may opt to establish a sham link which in essence creates a tunnel for the delivery of your LSAs across each link.

If Not, you may create your own private tunnel between each sites and establish your own neighbor relationship instead of relying on your service provider.

Please provide your feedback and as always please rate all helpful posts.

This again depends on your design, if you like to use new 50MB VPLS as primary then you need to change the configuration and traffic engineering.

until we see your configuration and topology at this stage, hard to comment.

All routes are showing up as e2 once  the vpls service is removed.

I   am in the process of contacting my provider.
