The minimum hardware and software image tu support MPLS can be found at www.cisco.com/go/fn select search by feature and in the search box put MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) there you can find the platform and IOS to support basic MPLS, but you need to consider the fact that supporting MPLS special features like AToM can only be supported on some 7200, 7500, 7600, 10000 and 12000, http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1839/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a0080153e64.html#1030652

Both the 2621 and 3640 are capable of running MPLS VPN. I wouldn't necesseraly think about these platforms for a production network but for a lab they are quite allright.

Hope this helps,

2691, 3640, 3660, 3700 series routers, and above will allow you to do tag switching (mpls ip).

1760 (excluding 2500s) and above will allow you to do ip vrf forwarding.

To my knowledge 2621, or 3620 will not do tag switching. Easiest way to confirm is to try to enter "mpls ip" or "tag-switching ip" command under the interface. If it allows you to enter the command you can do tag switching on 2621.

At the minimum i recommend 12.2.(15)T11.

The 3620 does not but the 2621 does.

Hope this helps,
