C3850 switch refusing to tftp

Hey everyone, i have an issue with trying to tftp a file to a switch i have.  i have tried direct ethernet connection to the switch, with spanning tree and with out with just an access port. switch was unable to ping PC directly connect but pc could ping and reach internet. Tried with pingable device, moved file off of flash drive to the desktop to make the source file closer to the tftp server, tried "copy usbflash0 flash:" said i didnt have permissions to do this manually gave line con 0 highest permissions and the admin account i was associated with. still said not high enough permissions. TFTP appears to time out after about 15 seconds. i Did a c3850 yesterday at a different location it took ages but worked directly connected. any assistance to help point me in the right direction? what information would you need from me to help? Is there a manual tftp timeout setting?

conf t
 ip tftp source-interface <VLAN>
 ip tftp blocksize 8192
end

i tried this with the vlan associated with the telnet connection to my computer it did not work. it still timed out and i manually extended the timeout of my tftp server

quick question @Leo Laohoo the vlan i would use to do this from my office does not exist on this switch. for this command should i be on site? im on the management vlan 1 at my location. the vlan 1 for the switch there has no configuration to it and the vtp is disabled. would that matter in this case?

how are you logged in to switch, console ? or SSH ?

can you post the switch config - show run

The VLAN should be the same VLAN used to remotely telnet/SSH into the switch.

im connected through telnet, the interface im connecting through to the switch is just an access port with our ISP. So would that be the vlan i make the tftp configs on? i was going through it and about to send the configs but i dont know if boss man would appreciate that since we handle credit card transactions

The switch does have eigrp with the network im connected to at my location and various other networks in our business.

If we not have config, we can only guess and give suggestion.

1. what is the switch IP ? what is your device IP you connecting ?

2. what is the TFTP IP

3. when you plug the USB, what log message you see.

4. can paste exact error - when you copy from USB to Flash and also TFTP would be help full to suggest.

Yes sorry about that but i can provide this traceroute from the switch to my work station.

XG_Primary#traceroute 172.16.30.202
Type escape sequence to abort.
Tracing the route to 172.16.30.202
VRF info: (vrf in name/id, vrf out name/id)
1 172.16.16.254 3 msec 3 msec 3 msec << vlan 284 ISP
2 172.16.30.202 3 msec 3 msec 3 msec << me

  • the interface connection at the switch is this.

!
interface GigabitEthernet1/1/1
switchport access vlan 284
switchport mode access
end

  • tftp server used is "tftpd64" and the ip is the same as my workstation 172.16.30.202
  • I cannot replicate the log message i get with a usb im not there to plug it in at the moment.

also note there is no issue with connecting and initiating the tftp process on the switch, it will just time out around 50%. and that is only once per reload, with out a reload the tftp process will time out with 0 bytes transferred after the first failure at 50%. if that makes sense.

version of switch is also Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 16.06.05

  • replication of tftp issue

You mentioned 50% and failed, but this totally not opening.

on switch issue dir: and check you have enough space to copy.

what TFTP Server you using on laptop ?

Since you mentioned you able to success connecting (i will not go towards windows FW suspect here)

EDIT: each time meaning after each reload one process will reach 50%

Yes this one failed completely but after a fresh reload on the first try it will get to about 50% each time. But  it is currently in production hours so i can not reload it. i am using tftpd64 " https://pjo2.github.io/tftpd64/ " this one.

Hello,

since I was late to this post, I am not sure if you have or have not posted the full running configuration (sh run) of your switch yet ?
