catalyst 4500-X SFP issues

Hello guys,

I have a Catalyst 4500-X switch which is having all TenGigabyteEthernet ports. I am using a mix of 10Gbe SFP fibre modules and 1 Gbe SFP Ethernet modules. My issue is some of the ports doesn't comes up if i remove and reconnect the cables (or restart the device which is connected on the port). I may need to remove the SFP module in that port multiple times and reconnect again, then only it comes. Once its up its working fine. Even if i connect my laptop to any of these ports, it doesn't show any connection. Please help. Is that something to configure on that ports or switch... All the ports are in Static access administrative mode and part of a VLAN. If i change the port speed to 1Gbe or 10Gbe according to devices attached will it help ?.. please advice.

hi you need to do the upgrade from USB , transfer the file to boot flash , set the boot statement in flash , save it and reload the router to upgrade

its up to you if you upgrade but your not on the minimum required image to support that SFP as per the documentation ,your choice but it wont work on 3.6.3

here is what the statement would look like , this is from my 4500x below , you would add your image name in place and save it then check command show bootv to confirm its ready before reload

#sh run | i boot
boot-start-marker
boot system flash bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.08.07.E.152-4.E7.bin
boot system flash bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.06.07.E.152-2.E7.bin
boot-end-marker

#show bootv
BOOT variable = bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.08.07.E.152-4.E7.bin,1;bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.06.07.E.152-2.E7.bin,1;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102

Standby BOOT variable = bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.08.07.E.152-4.E7.bin,1;bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.06.07.E.152-2.E7.bin,1;
Standby CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

Dear Mr.Mark.

I have updated the IOS to 3.8.7 now the switch and SFPs are working very fine. Thank you soo much for your support. Really appreciated.

Thats great thanks for letting us know

Chassis Type : WS-C4500X-16  - may be my ignorance or missed this bit i guess. ( i do not have this model to cross check)

i had some situaltion like you ( for the nexus FEX, they support only 10GB means, 10GB only)

As per the document this support only 10GB, other thank Management port 10/100/1000 support ( i do not see any backward compatability here).

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hmm thats odd https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/home says they are supported and backward compatible but i only see a 100mb on GLCT on my 4500x-16 when i connect but i also run 1GB and 10GB fiber no problem
and the matrix gives 3 types of versions to be on for the GLCT right up to 3.10 but i cant upgrade it to test as its a production VSS 45x

ill put my laptop which is a GB NIC on the switch in auto with the GLCT and see what happens now

there you go it works on auto at 1000mb with a GLCT in place so something up on user end

Sivan set the 4500x same as mine above auto using GLCT if its not working still and your on image higher than 3.7.4 there could be something up with far end switch

I see that this issue is marked as solved after an upgrade to 03.08.07.E, but I don't see this mentioned in the Resolved Caveats for that release.  I've been having the exact same behavior in 03.08.06.E.

Has anyone seen this documented?

Thanks

Not documented but thats off my live production 4500x when i posted that to show it works on that image

Hello

I have same problem, so I upgrade to cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.08.08.E.152-4.E8.bin, which should be upper 3.8.7.

But the problem seem same for 1G port (even GLT-LH-SMD or GLC-SX-MMD).

forthermore, release 3.8.7 is not availabel anymore for download.

so any idea?
