look for "logrot" in the helpfile search
I think it's the best way and yes it can be scheduled

Is there a recommended way in which to specifically rotate the syslog file ?

logrot is the utility of choice to rotate the syslog file
As far as frequency goes, it is entirely up to you.
If you have the disk space, then you may want to set the max size on the syslog file to 500MB.
If for any reason the syslog files grows to more than 2GB, it may cause problems with syslog analyzer in RME.

since initial config of logrot ie setting the backup directory, when i now try to run logrot, the logrot.pl script cannot be found.
upon checking the relevant directory, the logrot.pl file is now 0KB.
can you please help?

thanks michel - please excuse ignorance
1)I presume i did not config logrot @ initial menu. Now i cannot seem to activate the logrot config menu -
C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl.exe C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin\logrot.pl -c
Can't open perl script "C:\Program": No such file or directory
Both perl.exe and logrot.pl reside in the corresponding directories.
Can you help please?
Do you know the location of a logrot user guide?
thanks in advance Michel

You may need to use the dos style names or put quotes around the commands.
Something like:
"C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl.exe" "C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin\logrot.pl -c"
Cheers,
Michel
