LMS 2.5 withheld?

Hi,

I've tried to order the LMS 2.x upgrade kit to 2.5, but our reseller has said that it has been taken off sale again due to issues. Does this ring true, and if so what are the problems being seen?

Thanks

Stuart

That was a while ago, it is available again.

If I got the original version but have not loaded it yet, should I re-order the new version?

no need to do that, you will just need to install the patches that are on Cisco.com

I would suggest reordering the new media. I was at a Cisco seminar and the CCIE teaching said we should just get the new media. We have nothing but trouble with the new version. We are on our fourth week with an open tac case AFTER we applied patches. Many minor bugs and quirks that need to be ironed out. Many functions have been removed and will return at a later date which would indicate they rushed this to make a date. Needless to say this has been a frustrating experience. IF they work the bugs out there are some great improvemnts over the previous version that will really make it shine.

It's the switch from CiscoWorks "classic" to CiscoWorks 2000 all over again.

Few readers of this forum likely ever used the old Solaris only Ciscoworks which was a nice tcl/tk-based application that worked well. Cisco got on the web bandwagon in the mid-late 90s and lost all sorts of functionality with the initial versions of Ciscoworks 2000; and it was a resource hog as well. Not to mention (OK, I'm mentioning it) the Java debacle.

CiscoWorks finally replaced most of what was lost in that switch, as well as adding some useful new functionality (however they never did get the map layout as nice as Netsys which they had bought and made a token upgrade or two before killing that useful product) and, ba-da bing, it's time for the new 'Picasso' (CCO-like) interface and another under the covers re-architecting.

Will it ever stop?!

(Sorry, I just had to vent on this one.)

The tone here seems to imply that all the bugs have been worked out in CM3.3 and RME 3.5 (and its underlying ANI).

I've had problems for years, dozens of tickets have not resolved most of the problems. Right now I can't get a list of my devices in any RME menu "no entries found". DBSRV7 takes 50% of the CPU utilization when this happens. Discovery ended at 6:02AM. Device sync to RME actually runs at 2:17 AM. Why this system gets stuck is beyond me and the dozens of TAC specialists.

Due to ongoing problems with CW2K, I am fearful to recommend any other Cisco software products. They want to do a Call Manager rollout here, based on CW2K history, I am not looking forward to calls from cellular phones at 3AM that the phone system doesn't work.

Will this message be censored?

Ciscoworks is an unusually bad product - I too have performed several installations at different sites, with similar problems. I find it basically useless and am busy duplicating much of its functionality with freeware, the rest I can live without.

I will say that I've not had issues with Call Manager/Unity/ACS/IPCC etc. so Cisco can do software and I agree CiscoWorks was much better in pre web days, shame really.
