can sg200-26p pass through dhcp services when in static mode

5 Replies 5

Hi @lespoehner

This switch does not support to be DHCP server but it does support to be DHCP client.

Other management

HTTP, RADIUS, port mirroring, TFTP upgrade, DHCP client, BOOTP, SNTP, ping, syslog

in adition to above,
within a single vlan the switch will process (forward) DHCP packets just like any trafic
if that is what you mean with "pass through dhcp services" ?

I really appreciate your reply. Here are a few more details and I invite
your review and thoughts, if you're able.

*Hardware:*
I'm using a Ubiquiti UDM Dream Pro and Ubiquiti SW-48-port POE switch for
the main portion of the network. As a church, I have quite a few devices in
the tech booth and want them together on a separate switch, hence the Cisco
SG200. I have also created a separate VLAN for the SG200 so all those
devices are on one subnet and have set the UDM Pro to handle the inter-VLAN
traffic I need to that VLAN. I am wanting DHCP services for the devices
connected to the SG200 to come from the UDM PRO for straightforward
management.

*Question:*
I am setting the SG200 DHCP as "static." What I am assuming is that that
will simply pass-through DHCP requests to the UDM Pro and keep the SG200
from issuing any addresses.
Am I correct on this? Is there a better way to do it?

Hi there,
so to hear you are al ready quite advancing in your network

if the SG200 only processes VLAN's and the UDP PRO is properly configured for vlans and DHCP then you should be OK
this static setting will mean you assign the SG200 a static (fixed) IP-address instead of the SG200 requesting a dynamic address from the UDP PRO pool

so check the SG200 has DHCP server disabled, this is another setting than setting the IP-addres as static

The 200 series of switches does not have being a DHCP server as a feature.  The 300s and higher have DHCP server as an option on them, but the 200 does not since it is just a layer 2 switch.

If that does not work with your VLANs, there must be some mismatch in the VLAN configuration between the SG200 and the Ubiquity side. The configuration of the switch’s IP address does not play any role in it.
