Hi,
We recently experienced a failover of our vss due to a parity error on
the supervisory module.
We want to ensure that snmp traps and
syslogging is setup up correctly.
We did not receive any notifications with our current configuration.
Please suggest and advise how SNMP can monitor VSS failover and how to configure it and how for syslogs.
-Thanks

You can poll the mib CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-MIB for VSS related configuration and status.
Regarding traps depending on your version of code you may be able to enable:
snmp-server enable traps vswitch

Thank you for the information.
Can you tell me what logging level to set for syslog in order to see the syslog messages?
-Thanks

Hi,
I try to poll the oids on our clients' VSS cores but they don't get picked up. Are these not active as part of the IOS code installed and running on the VSS chassis ?
e.g. I tried to poll 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.388 for
MIB CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-MIB
Object cvsChassisEntry
It comes back with :
----------------------- New Test -----------------------
Paessler SNMP Tester 3.2
Device: 192.168.15.1
17/12/2010 13:22:38 (26 ms) : Start using SNMP V2c
17/12/2010 13:22:38 (60 ms) : -------
17/12/2010 13:22:38 (63 ms) : Value: No such object (SNMP error # 222)
17/12/2010 13:22:38 (67 ms) : Done
Any assistance you can give is much appreciated. Also tried the other CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-MIB OID options with similar results.
Thanks
Mark
