Upgrading prime infrastructure 2.1.0.0.78 - 2.1 cannot do app backup

Hi All

Trying to do an upgrade prime 2.1.0.0.78  to prime 2.2.

I have saved an app backup off the exisitng prime 2.1.0.0.78

However when i try to restore to the new prime infra 2.2

with the backup from the 2.1.0.0.78 it fails with a database error

My technical support say i should change the new vm server

to match ip addresses etc with the old one but that cant be right

as this is the official blurb for the types of backups ...

  • Application backups: These contain all Prime Infrastructure application data, but do not include host-specific settings, such as the server hostname and IP address. Application backups are intended for use when Prime Infrastructure is running as an OVA on customer-supplied hardware, as restoring from the backup may need to be to a server with completely different host settings.
  • Appliance backups: These contain all application data and host-specific settings, including the hostname, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Appliance backups are intended for use when Prime Infrastructure is running on a Cisco-supplied appliance, and restoration is most likely to be to a server with the same host settings.

I am obviously using the application backups

Kind regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

of course , you don't need to match ip addresses etc with the old one..

share the output of " show version " from your 2.1 server.

Thanks-

luigi

Hi Luigi,

about this error :

- completed at  02/02/15 17:34:51
  Stage 7 of 9: Recovering Database ...
Error while restoring and recovering database, please check the logs.

most of the times this error is because the backup is corrupted, please create another backup and try the operation again.

you can verify the md5sum before and after tranferring the backup, doing that you are surte that the backup is not corrupted.

Hope it helps !

Hi,

We are getting the exact same error. Did you resolve the issue ?

We upgraded from 1.3 to 2.1.0.0.87 as an intermediate step and backed up 2.1. Created new 2.2 instance and verified all services are running "ncs status". Attempted to restore 2.1.0.0.87 generated backup into 2.2 instance and Stage 7 of 9 failed with the exact same error. Attempted this multiple times with new backups generated on 2.1 and attempted restore on 2.2 No luck. Once this happens "ncs status" show all processes down/stopped. Attempting to s them using "ncs start" results in errors given below:

prime/root# ncs start
cp: cannot stat `/opt/oracle/base/oradata/WCS/controlfile/*.ctl': No such file or directory

Starting Prime Infrastructure...

This may take a while (10 minutes or more) ...

Failure during Prime Infrastructure startup.  Check launchout.log for details.

Starting strongSwan 5.0.1 IPsec [starter]...

Thanks,

Rick.

Anyone got a solution for this ???
