Extremely slow <1Mbs speed using Fiber media convertors

Hiya ,

we have extremely slow connection (<1mbs) via identical Fiber Media convertors (10/100/1000),
across 2 cisco switches.
If we use a LAN able on the same ports we get 300Mbs

The convertors have no dip switches on them like other Fiber media convertors I have seen.

Previous Convertors we had (10/100) also had the same issue ( all AFTER we moved to cisco switches)
Previous Convertors worked fine on the old switches we had (3com)

near end switch
SG350X-24

far end switch
SG350X-48

Newest Media Convertors are TP-Link MC200CM (10/100/1000)

Do the ports on the Cisco switches need to be set in some way for the Fiber media convertors to work correctly ?

any help appreciated.

check if port is up and assigned with correct speed. check capture form interface settings. if its not automatically gets the correct speed, try configuring it manually. Screenshot 2022-06-01 204412.jpg

i would start hard coding to 1GB and test( instead of auto)

is the media converters output Ethernet, then test using  Laptop to Laptop what is the outcome to identify is the issue with switch or media converters

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi

After you plug everything, if you go to switches and see the port status, does it show UP state? And the duplex as full and speed as 1000?

If so, there´s nothing on the switch side.

check if port is up and assigned with correct speed. check capture form interface settings. if its not automatically gets the correct speed, try configuring it manually. Screenshot 2022-06-01 204412.jpg

Hiya , and thank you so much for the replies, they all pointed to the fix.

The port on one switch had - Auto Negotiation disabled - Manually set to 100M Full

The port on the other switch had   - Auto Negotiation enabled - so 1000M Full.

So a mismatch of settings.

I set both ports to Auto negotiation disabled and manually set both to 1000M.

Getting much better speeds now !

Thank you so much.
