Hello all. I have heard this term (fiber strands) used loosely. Is this referring to the actual pure glass on the middle of the fiber? In an example where you have fiber cable with LC connectors on both ends connecting two devices. Would that be equal to 2 strands?

Again, Im new to fiber and trying to get a clear understanding of the concepts. Thanks,

Yes, your definition is correct.

When people speak of fiber, it is difficult to know whether they are referring to the cable or the fibers in the cable.  Using the term Fiber Strands makes it pretty clear they are discussing the actual glass optical fibers inside the cable sheath.

If you want to learn some of the basics of fiber optics, take a look at the following website.  It can be a great reference source for understandable, fiber related information..

Good luck!
