I have installed Unity on a ML380 (same sort of box as a CM 7835, 733MHz 1Gb RAM, not running CM). I have exchange 5.5 installed and the box is setup as a W2k DC. I have installed MSDE 2000. I have run SP4 for exchange and SP1 for MSDE and SP2 for W2K. Unity installed fine as did the exchange configuration utility to sync the message store. When unity starts the AvUMRSyncSvr service uses 100% of the CPU.
Although very slow, I can import new exchange users OK. Unity answers when I dial it but plays the email system is temporarily down.

I think you have to change the default LDAP port in Exchange 5.5 to something other than 389 if you've got AD on the Unity box aswell as AD uses it also. May be causing you probs?

I had already changed my LDAP in exchange to port 700 and the same in Unity.
I resolved the problem by upgrading to Unity 3.03. This fixed the utilization problem in both the LAB and Production implementation.
