3640 as a voice gateway??

Hi All,

Is 3640 a good choice for VOIP gateway? We need to connect 4 pabx ds1 interfaces to 4 voice e1 interfaces on a cisco router. We thought of getting 2 3640s with 2 voice network modules (with e1s),

How many voice network modules can we have on a single 3640 before we run into CPU util. issues? What NM is recommended for connecting to digital pabx e1 interface? What is the best IOS version and feature for the job?

I have been using 3640 as voice gateways for many years, You need qty 2 NM-HDV-1E1-30 or qty 1 NM-HDV-2E1-60 network modules, and and ensure you have maximum memory and flash, currently running ios 122-15T13 without any probs.

what is the pabx interface is it E1 isdn pri? if pri what isdn switch type is it? or does it use r2 signalling? I need to know before i can help you further

We have Avaya Pabx.

Pabx DS1 interface is an E1 with ETSI signalling (we can also do e1 CAS instead) signalling.

PABX interface conf is below (the ones I can see):

bit rate: 2.048

Signalling Mode: ISDN PRI

Interworking Message: PROGress

Interface Companding: allow

Idle Coede: 11111111

Line Coding: HDB3

Country Protocol: ETSI

Protocol Version: a

CRC: yes

DCP/Analog Bearer Capability: 3.1KHz

Slip Detection: Yes

I am still trying to find out what pri switch type we use here.

OK ETSI is euo-isdn which is net5, so here is basic config

controller E1 2/0

pri-group timeslots 1-31

clock source internal < provide clock for PABX

interface Serial2/0:15

no ip address

no logging event link-status

isdn switch-type primary-net5

isdn incoming-voice voice

isdn T310 60000

isdn sending-complete

isdn protocol-emulate network < so the pabx thinks its connecting to a cenral switch across the pstn

no cdp enable

dial-peer voice 1001 pots

incoming called-number .

direct-inward-dial

port 2/0:15

dial-peer voice 5000 pots

destination-pattern 0 <> or what ever suffix you want to go to that pabx

direct-inward-dial

port 2/0:15

Connecting Cat-6500 CMM gateway to Lucent Definity G3i PBX via E1 ISDN PRI & Cisco CallManager

I have a lot of parameter in Lucent such as :

interface ( User or network ), Connect ( BPX or network or host, line side ), country 7 protocol version.

Can you please help me with the Lucent PBX & Cisco CMM Configuration ?
