has anyone had any experience with the 3com voip solution particularly the nbx100 who can shed some light on why, in a similar configuration it is so much less than the ics7750?

3com has traditionally been cheaper than Cisco in most arenas, the fact that the NBX is cheaper isn't all that surprising. Downsides to it are that it doesn't scale well, the back-end is UNIX (*NIX users, I know, I know) so it may be a little more diffucult to maintain. Plus, from the phones I've seen they don't look near as good.

The most important difference are
1- The protocol between the phone and NBX its propietary
2- Phones can only work in G.711, 64K or 32K
3- Only support H.323 using a server based in Windows
4- The only gateway that you can use are 3Com
