Call Waiting Notification like PBX

Client is migrating to Cisco CM from a Nortel Key system - Modular ICS, and I haven't been able to find an equivalent feature relating to Call Waiting.

Behavior on Nortel -

User 1 is on phone.

User 2 calls User 1, rings as normal, and display for User 1 says "On another call", the User 2 also gets a ring and a prompt that shows who is calling them.

Behavior on Cisco -

User 1 dials User 2. Phone rings as normal for User 1, and User 1 does not know that User 2 is on the phone.

OR

Call waiting is disabled (line busy trigger = 1), and User 1 gets a busy signal, but User 2 does not realize there was an attempted call from User 1.

I would like to find an equivalent feature so that callers can know when the called party is already on the line, and the called party can know that someone tried to reach them. Disabling call waiting so that they hear a "busy" signal does not meet their desires for the feature. They want both to have some notification that the end user is on the phone, AND have the user who is on the phone get notification that they had an incomming call.

Is there any way to do this with Callmanager? Running 4.0 sr2.

I don't know of a solution but an alternative would be:

1. if 7960, can put each line in a partition and have it rolled to the next line on busy

or

2. try callback feature

Neither of these options satisfy both desires.

The Called party wants to know that a call was placed, and at the same time, the Calling party wants to know that the caller is on the phone, while still offering the called party a ring and an option to pick up the call.

There is a call waiting indicator. You will hear a short beep. This beep is not always at the beginning of the new call. It seems to be a timer which is independently of the begginning of the new call. If you have call forward noan configured to 10s, it is possible to hear no call waiting beep before forwarding the call. I did not found a command to change the timer. in release 3.2 CCME you should have the possibility to change that according a cisco Engineer in Switzerland.
