can direcrtory handler be accessed from within conversation menus

When a user in in his voicemail menu, can he go to the directroy handler.

The goal is to get the call transfer to a choosen internal extension extension after the user is done listening to his messages.

Couple things here...

First, you don't have to be in the directory handler to be able to try an extension - that's only for folks that don't know the extension they're looking for and need to find the user by spelling their name - you can dial an extension directly from any greeting (unless you specifically lock the keys down for that greeting to now allow it).

By default when subscribers exit their mailbox they are sent to the opening greeting call handler - they can dial another extension directly from there no problem.

For Unity 4.0(1) and later you can define the exit destination specifically to go anywhere you want (including to a directory handler if you reall want that, although it's a strange place to send subscribers when they exit their mailbox). In versions of Unity prior to that it's hard coded to go to the opening greeting call handler.

When we exit the mailbox pressing * , we go back to the attempt sign in greeting (please enter your ID followed by # .......).

The user would like to actually have is called transfer to an extension where he can talk to somebody, not checking another voice mailbox.

That's why I was thinking the easiest was to sent him to the directory handler.

Unless you're at 4.x and you've specifically set users to go to sign in when they exit, we don't send callers there by default - my guess is they are hitting another "*" there and they actually go to the opening greeting and then to the subscriber sign in conversation off of that.

no, sending them to the directory handler is not what you want. It would then ask them to spell a name of a user they were looking for which would be a bit odd. Going to the opening greeting allows them to choose to dial an extension, go to the operator, go to the directory handler etc... which is probably what you want there.
