Can Unity/Gateway detect fax tone and forward calls to a fax machine?

I have a customer that wants to use their main phone number for voice and fax calls. They currently have the main number going to an auto attendant.

They would like that auto attendant to be able to detect fax tone and simply forward the call to an extension on callmanager that goes to their fax machine. They don't want to have a fax server that places faxes in exchange mailboxes, but simply want to transfer the call to a single office fax machine.

Is there any possibility of doing this?

Unity doesn't have any ability on it's own to detect fax tones (i.e. call manager doesn't send up an event to us when a fax carrier detect tone comes down the line) - the gateways may have the ability to do fax detection and routing ising their IVR type capabilities but that's a little out of my area of expertise - perhaps someone on the IP Telephony forum would know more.
