Creating a music folder on 4305g DMP

Hi Tomas,

We have just upgraded one of our 4305g DMPs from version 5.1 to version 5.2. I would like to test an .mp3 music file.  In a previous post, you gave me the following instructions:

"Using version 5.2 on a DMP-4400G, I simply used an FTP client and copied the

music.mp3 file to the DMP and placed into

the (self created) music directory.

Once the file is copied successfully, I entered

the following URL in the DISPLAY ACTIONS-->MEDIA URL

file:///tmp/ftproot/usb_1/music/music.mp3

Click START and the music plays successfully."

Can you please tell me which user id you used to create the music folder as I have tried using the Web account and was presented with 'insufficient access privileges'?

I also tried using:

• my user id that I use to log into the DMM AAI as I'm set up as an administrator
• superuser

with all attempts, I get 'access denied'.

I tried using PuTTy and WinSCP (FTP clients).

A couple of things:

After the upgrade, you need to check (from the DMP-DM)

* under Management Services - is FTP Server ON?

* under Internal storage - Is Access mode "Read and Write"

the FTP user is defined under "DMP Service Account" on the DMP-DM.

This is the user that you will use.

Check these..  if you make any changes, Apply, Save, and reboot DMP.

Then Try again...

I have check all three attributes and all three are there.  I still can't create a folder.

* under Internal storage - Is Access mode "Read and Write"  Yes

the FTP user is defined under "DMP Service Account" on the DMP-DM.  Yes.

Is there anything else that I can check?

* then access the DMP via the DMP-DM and reconfigure "all" of the settings.

  Apply, Save, and Restart DMP.

* Test making directory using a FTP client like "Filezilla"

* Also after doing this please provide a screen shot of the Hardware\Firmware version of the DMP from

the DMP-DM

Hi Tomas,

We are currently still running on version 5.1 but have upgraded one each 4305g and 4400g to version 5.2.  I tried creating the folder on the 4305g that was upgraded to test .mp3 playing.  The DMM is still running version 5.1.

I tried creating a folder on 4305g version 5.1 and it worked successfully.

I'm thinking that it could be something to do with the upgrade but will investigate further.  If I reset the DMP back to factory settings, it will revert back to version 5.1.  I'll try in a few days time and let you know how I go.

If the DMP is running version 5.2, Resetting to factory defaults only changes

the configuration not the software version.   Please provide a snapshot of

the Software\Hardware version of of a DMP you believe to be running 5.2.

Hi Tomas,

Since resetting to default factory settings, I cannot reach the DMP any more via the browser or any FTP apps.   Although the DMP is connected to the network, in trying to access it, I get 'Cannot be found' error.

Pinging the DMP also responds with 'Request timed out'.

The DMM is still on version 5.1 however does show the DMP to be on version 5.2 although it has a red cross next to it.

Linda,

The DMM will not be able to talk to the DMP correctly

since they are on "Different" versions.  Remember, the DMPs and

the DMM MUST be on the same versions to function correctly.

The DMP(s) on 5.2 (while your DMM is 5.1) will basically be

"standalone" DMPs.

In regards to the access issue,  after resetting the DMP to factory defaults

the DMP's config should be empty.  That said you will need to watch the

display as it boots up to see it's IP address. the address MAY change and

that could be your connectivity issue. 

* Verify the DMP IP address on the Screen

* Verify the GREEN light is on, on the front of the DMP (NOT red)

Once you verified the IP address, please try accessing again...

Hi Tomas,

I understand the DMM (version 5.1) cannot talk to the DMP (version 5.2) because they are both on different versions, I took the screen shot to show you the DMP was version 5.2.

I finally have the DMP up and running after restoring to factory settings.

Using WinSCP3, I could log onto the DMP using the DMP Service account (ftp) and could create a folder under the /usb_1 directory.

I copied an mp3 file into the music folder but when the copy completed a warning message (please see attachment) was displayed.  When I attempted to play the music via browser Play Media File Stored Locally option, I don't get any sound.

I have since tried to copy the file to various directories including file:///usb_1/deployment/xTAS-core/api/xml/app/playlist/ without success.

I think it has something to do with the copying error. Any ideas or suggestions?

Can you please repeat test of making directory using a FTP client like "Filezilla".

I have not seen the error that you provided but it appears that winscp is setting

or trying to set permissions.  I use Filezilla without any issues.

Also, since you got the DMP to reset to factory defaults make sure that the

"Flash" is set to READ\WRITE.

Let me know the results of the filezilla tests..

Hi Tomas,

Found my issue, when I added the URL to play locally, I was omitting /tmp/ftproot from the URL so instead of entering: file:///tmp/ftproot/usb_1/music/Maria.mp3 I was typing in file:///usb_1/music/Maria.mp3

I was able to create the directory and copy the music file into the directory using WinSCP3 and although I got the error as in previous e-mail, the music did actually play once I entered the correct URL.

You also mention to ensure 'Flash' was set to read/write, I couldn't find the 'Flash' option.  Can you please tell me where is the option?

By Flash, I mean Compact Flash which is the INTERNAL STORAGE settings...

I see the 'Flash' option in Internal Storage as 'Access Mode' and yes, I had already set that to 'Read/Write'.
