CUCM <--> UNITY SIP trunk down reason 503 AFTER upgrade to 12.5.1

I have a cluster CUCM & Unity ver 11.5.1.12900-1 integrated via SIP trunk working properly on production.

For preparation to a full upgrade, I took backup of entire CUCM & UNITY system and restored them properly on an ISOLATED environment.

I upgraded CUCM & UNITY cluster to ver 12.5.1 on isolated environment, DB replication is OK on both clusters, NTP & DNS integration is OK. Also required services are running on CUCM & Unity ( like the ones running on production clusters).

On Isolated environment SIP trunk between CUCM & Unity is down ( Status Reason=503)

I have reset SIP trunk from CUCM & Unity port groups.

From Unity I got "No problems detected" when I run "Check Telephony Configuration" Test.

From each CUCM & Unity I have confirmed proper name resolution of each other ( although issue persists when I change name by IP addresses on CUCM SIP Trunk config)

I have added domain name on "Organization Top Level Domain" Enterprise Parameter.

I have confirmed both servers have port 5060 up, and no SIP traffic is blocked on firewalls between CUCM & UNITY clusters.

Can somebody has an idea of what is missing here on this implementation?

Thanks in advanced

Enrique

Have not looked at the trace file as I’m accessing the community on my mobile phone. But that error usually indicates that the address in the request isn’t known by the CM or that the CM cannot communicate with the IP address. Have you verified that you can ping the CUC from the CM and that the resolved IP for the FQDN resolves to the correct address?

Did you see the 503 error as it flowed through a router, or did you pull it out of the CUCM trace file? If it is from the trace file, can you post it? We'd have to see what is going on that led up to that error.

Maren

Hello Maren.

Thanks for reply

I got this error from CUCM SIP trunk status:

Status: down

Status Reason: remote=503

I have confirmed that Unity server has SIP port 5060 open.

Please pull the CM SDL traces and post it so that we can see what’s going on with this. For this please give a timeframe for when you do the reset of the SIP trunk in CM to narrow down the search in the logs.

Thanks for reply Roger.

I am working on it, but now i have the issue installing RTMT ver 12.5:

"Could not find a valid Java virtual machine to load"

You need to have Oracle Java installed to install RTMT.

Hello I solved RTMT issue, I am attaching a summary of CUCM attempts to connect with Unity servers (unity01.mydoamin.org & unity02.mydomain.org).

The SIP 503 error comes with "Warning: 399 'Routing failed: socket=172.18.130.69:5060' message.

Thanks for help

Thanks for fast answer, yes, between ALL  CUCM <--> Unity servers:

a) You can resolve name <--> IP address of each other

b) You can ping each other.

c) You can trace each other

No firewall blocking traffic

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Reading info from:

https://community.cisco.com/t5/ip-telephony-and-phones/unity-connection-10-0-busy-tone/td-p/2505427

I added CUCM Pub on Unity servers as follows:

telephone integrations>port group>select the port group> then at the top>edit>servers>sip servers>

And after reset port groups on Unity, the SIP trunk is now:

Service status: Partial Service 50%

The destination Unity01 on port 5060 is UP !!

The destination Unity02 on port 5060 is still down ( Status Reason=503).

But I tested name resolution from Unity02 to CUCM Pub and it is failing!

As you said you did a restore of the systems the assumption would be that the configuration would be as is from the original system. Do you not have that configuration in place already?

Thanks for reply, this is the part I do not understand

On production environment UNITY servers do not have CUCM Pub as part of SIP servers configured for Telephony Integration.

Now I am found that Unity02 ver 12.5  does not have DNS servers configured!!!

I reviewed my notes from restore of Unity02 ver 11.5 and DNS was CONFIGURED then.

Unity01 ver 12.5 has proper DNS servers configured

Roger thanks a lot for your help.

Once I configured DNS on Unity02 CUCM SIP trunk got finally FULL SERVICE STATUS

I really appreciate your GREAT help.

Enrique

Glad to hear that you managed to resolve your issue.
