Expressway

Iam a newbie to the expressways.

recently while reading through about Expressway setups.

I saw a picture which had

Expressway- C  (In the inside of the Firewall)
Expressway- E  (In the DMZ)

The expressway C then runs a SIP trunk to the CUCM.

As I understand Few years back in deployments . I see that there was only a

VCS- Control
VCS- Expressway

After cisco acquiring tandberg,  Later CUCM versions could register all tandberg endpoints eliminating VCS-Control
What are the function & capabilies of Expressway C & Expressway E?
Does both need to be involved in  a typical set up for firewall traversal?
I also read that Expressway C is the traversal Client & E is the traversal server. what does this mean ?
Does expressway C deal with call routing and registeration of endpointss aswell ?

Looking to understand.

Hey Arun,

The Expressway-E and Expressway-C are the exact same as the VCS-C and VCS-E except for the Expressway-E and Expressway-C servers do not support registration. They are meant for call routing and feature support such as Jabber Guest and MRA.

You can do all the same things on both servers except the VCS-C and E support device registration. Hope that answers your question!
