Fax Relay Question

When our vendor installed our system, they disabled Fax Relay on our 6608 gateways. Is there any reason for this? Has anyone had any problems with Fax Relay on a CCM 3.1.4b system w/ 6608 PRIs & VG248s?

Thanks

Make sure you are ruinning with the latest dev pack for the 6608 and the latest code for the VG248 (1.2(1)). Fax relay did have some issues with the gateways until recently, but in the latest loads fax relay should work fine.

Our faxes did not work at all or consistently until fax relay was disabled. We use the 6608 and VG248 but we are on CCM 3.3. I am not the guy to answer this technically; our vendor discovered this solution after our cutover and faxes were still not working correctly, if at all.

Think of fax-relay as a very efficient method for transporting faxes _within_ a network domain ... one fax machine in LA attached via some gateway (6608, etc), sent across the network to NY, where another fax machine waits, attached to a gatway also programmed with fax-relay ... this fax call would perform quite well ... the reason you need fax passthrough (or to disable fax relay) is that the "other" fax machine to which you are attaching is across the PSTN network, which is out of your network domain and thus more than likely does not understand the fax-relay configuration ...

I had problems with setting up faxing using CCM 3.1.4, a VG-248, and an HDV module in a 3640 ... it was is part due to the code release on the VG-248 (since upgraded to 1.2.1) and the code revision on the gateway ... it can be solved though!
