Is there a way I can discard 6 leading digits from 10 digit DNs and pass only last 4 digits to our legacy PBX?
i need to somehow do the following:
312446XXXX ---->XXXX
(please note that entire 312446XXXX is internal DN so I can not use discard PreDot using 312446.XXXX).
thanks in advance

You can either use num-exp or translation rule in the dial peers of the gateway.

Use the Called Party Transformation mask of XXXX.
This way, only the last 4 digits will be send to the PBX

The question then is how do you send calls to your legacy PBX? What is the route pattern you are using to capture calls from CallManager to the PBX? IT would be in that route pattern that you are using that I would simply put in the called party transformation XXXX, I'm pretty sure that it sends digits from the right, so if you put XXXX it will only send four digits.
