Ip Communicator Return audio home network

I work for a University that is deploying IP Communicator to students for classroom discussion and the students w/o home networks seem to setup and work fine but those including myself and the IT Administrator for the University cannot receive the return audio with a Linksys BEFW11S4 router even if we open the VOIP ports UDP 16384 - 32767 or even placing the machine in the DMZ. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Hi

The problem is probably that your PC has an IP that gets NATted - so your phone tells CM it is x.x.x.x and CM in turn tells other phones to transmit to x.x.x.x instead of it's external NAT ip of y.y.y.y.

You can set up an URL that CIPC uses to determine it's outside IP - see this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps5475/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a008020ad99.html#wp1103877

The bottom section re the Administration Tool and enabling HTTP access tells you how to install and set this up...

Regards

Aaron,

Thanks for the information. We had decided it had to be a nat issue but couldn't put the pieces together for the solution.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

Anyone have any thoughts:

Any ideas why my IPCommunicator would only allow outbound dialling via VPN? Everything works great...phone registers..I get an extension...able to dial out with no problem..but whenever someone tries to call me..I'm unable to pick up the phone..it just keeps ringing and the answer button does not appear. Any thoughts? I tried the getIP.asp thing..no luck. Remove all access lists on the VPN VLAN..still nothing...could this be a choke router or concentrator issue?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dave,

Did you get your problem corrected, I am having the exact same issue but have not been able to get a solution to fix it. Can you let me know.

Thanks

Still nothing as of yet. We figure this has to be a router blocking issue.. Please keep me updated if you have any progress with your situation and I'll do the same.

thanks,
