Multicast MOH

I have an issue where multicast MOH stops working.

When it stops the held party gets silence. The servers remain registered and traces do not indicate

problems. Routers in the system do not drop anything

or indicate problems. A reset of the server starts things working again. It may work for days then drops

again. Call manager is on 3.2.2(c). Unicast MOH is not a problem. Anyone have any ideas???

Does the streaming appear to stop to all phones? I.e. do phones on the same subnet as the MOH server still get sound or not?

Yes it stops to all phones that would receive the

multicast. Phones on the same subnet are unicast.

The phones that received multicast are at 4 different

locations on 4 different subnets. Transit is via frame relay.

I'd suggest reconfiguring a phone on the same subnet as CM to receive multicast - then when the failure happens test the phone on the same subnet to see if it still receives.

If it does then your problem will be network configuration related...

I've been seeing this problem with CCM from 3.3.2 on up to 3.3.4. Finally managed to isolate the exact time when it died in detailed traces, and it appears that the part of the media streaming app that encodes the audio dies (error messages appeared to indicate that it thinks no inputs are connected to the sound device). Restarting the service is the only way we've found to deal with it. Have had 3 separate TAC cases on this with no resolution. I guess Cisco could just blame it on incompatible hardware (we're using SB MP3+ USB audio device) but they REALLY need to get with it and come up with supported hardware that is still commercially available outside of the Goodwill junk bin.

In our experience, it sometimes goes days and sometimes dies within five minutes of being reset.
