I have a 3725 running code 122-15.T2 as an H323 gateway. CM is ver 3.3.2 spC. Whenever someone calls from the outside and gets put on hold, there is an error in the app log (below) and the caller hears nothing, no MOH nor any beeps. The gateway is in the same partition, CSS, region as the phones. Inside the network, you hear music when put on hold. So, where do I go from here? Do I have to change the codec somewhere? Thanks.

Hello,
Try to place a call from outside to ip phone and see on the ip phone which codec it is using. Also on the ip voice media stream service parameter try to enable G729 and g711 both and see if it fixes the problem. Also on the gateway make sure there is media resource group configured.
Ihope this helps.
Thanks,
Radhika

Thanks Radhika,
In looking at the configs, this is a MGCP gateway. Does that make a difference as far as the media resource group configured on it? The T1 has a MRGL configured on it in CM.

Hello,
It does not matter if it is a MGCP gateway or h323 gateway .It is the same MRG,MRGL programming for both. One other quick question .Are you using unicast or multicast?
Thanks,
Radhika

Try to call from PSTN to one of your IP phone, put the call on Hold and then note the timestamp.
Collect the trace files for "Cisco IP Voice Media Streaming App" specific to that time stamp and if possible post it here. Also hope you have configured the Gateway with the correct MRGL or placed the MRGL on the device pool associated with the gateway.

Did you try enabling g729 on the ip voice media stream service parameters and see if it fixes the issues.
Also can you please post the configs of the router .
Is it unicast or multicast ?

I did enable G729 annex A in the ip voice media streaming application service parameter, but I'm still getting the errors. Below is the config for the router.

Hello,
Are seeing the configs it looks as though the router is configured for h3232 and not mgcp.Is your loop back interface the h323 interface that is configured in call manager. If yes please add one other command under loop back interface and see if it fixes the problem.
int loopback0
h3232-gateway voip interface
Thanks,
Radhika

Hi,
I went through the trace and one thing that concerns me is error "DevRcSecCheck Not enough CMgrs to have secondary".
Do you know what time you made the call from outside and placed the call on hold.
Also please check your MGRL setting, do you have 2 MOH servers in the MGRLs, I think its trying to stream from a server and the server is not able to provide the audio.
11-17-2004 08:02 AM
Hello,
It is my understanding that for MOH to work it is not necessary to have both the call managers. One should be ok.
Thanks,
Radhika

No doubt about your genuine understanding.
My point is if MGRL is having one specific MOH server and if it cant stream you are down.
Hope it makes sense.
Go through the trace files its all there.

I had this exact issue I had to use a voice class codec. What happens is that your call is probaly g729 but MOH has to be g711 so you have to create a voice class to allow that VOIP dial-peer (that points to CCM) to change. I didn't know exctaly what the difference is between g711Alaw and g711ulaw so I added them bith along with both g729.
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711alaw
codec preference 2 g711ulaw
codec pref 3 g729
!
!
dial-peer voice 723 voip
voice-class codec 1
!
This should get you working. If you know what the difference is and what the IP hones use please tell me oterwise it work with all listed.
