Since building CCM 4.0 in September the tar files were around 600MB. Theve been steadily increaing since then and are up to 1.1GB. I've deleted all the trace files. All I have are 250 devices and 4 gateways.
What can I look for to decrease the size of the backup and keep it down.

Do you have CDR enabled ?

Yes CDR Insert is a running service. Is that why??

Yes. If you have CDR enabled, there is a good chance that your backup size is increasing becasue of this.

Can I clean this up somehow? I went to \\ccm\PF\cisco\calldetail\CDR and there's a little 3K file in there.

records are stored in the CDR database on the publisher.
check the size of it from Enterprise Manager (SQL)
if you have CAR installed, you can purge records.

Here is a way to manually purge it.

As determined elsewhere in the thread, this is probably related to your CDRs. If they are not that important to you, you could disable backing them up in BARS.

I don't see where you can pick and choose what to BU in BARS.

On my system, BARS 4(0)2, CCM 3.3.4 I can go into the Data Source Servers screen, choose my pub, and on the second page I have an option for including CDRs or not. If you have are running a different version, YMMV
