Unity 7 UM and Exchange

- If a customer has Unity UM and Exchange, do they need to buy a license for Exchange users accessing their VM's via Outlook?  Even with VMO?

- Can Unity mailboxes be created that doesn't have a specific exchange user assigned?

I've gotten a little rusty on Unity and the various licensing requirements so a little help is appreciated...

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

Unity supports mixed licensing so a user can be either voicemail only or UM.  The distinction is more a matter of configuration.  Here is a link with more information:  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/white/paper/cuumvme.html

You can have a generic voicemail that is not tied to a user's standard email.  For example, let's say you want to have a mailbox for Help Desk that a few folks will access only using the phone (i.e., not in email).  For this you would create a generic AD account and Exchange mailbox (ex: vm-helpdesk).  This isn't any one user's specific email account but it allows calls to be redirected to voicemail and then messages are left in a generic mailbox which users can access via the phone.
