If I have a 4506 with a sup III module should it have layer 3 capability by default. If so how do you access the layer 3 services.
We have on in the field that has a WS-X4014. The switch is currently configured in CAT OS Mode. Session is not an option for accessing the supervisor at layer 3. The software on the sup module is 12.1(12c)EW1.

Sup3/4 for CAT4500/4000 run integrated IOS. You would configure it just like a router. You can find configuration guidelines at

The 4500 series does not have a seperate RSP module. Its built into the SUP engine of the L3 switch. Session command doesnt work here. you need to directly configure the desired VLAN interfaces and do a static or dynamic routing.
All required IP addresses for VLANs should be configured on the VTP server. Other VTP client switches will have only L2 information.
