Hi all,

Is there a way to reduce the switchover time of the SUPIV from 1.5 minutes? Once we pull out the active module the it takes about 1.5 minutes for the standby to go active. Our client wants the downtime to be reduced. Is there another way? Like the uplinkfast in STP?

Consider stateful switchover (SSO) redundancy supported from 12.2(20)EWA. Also note that rommon 12.1(20r)EW1 or 12.2(20r)EW is needed.

Be aware that SSO will not retain the RSA keys after a failover with version 12.2(20)EWA

If you are using telnet exclusively to access the switch, this won't affect you.

However, if you are using ssh exclusively to access the switch, you will have to connect to the active supervisor from the serial port each time there is a switchover to regenerate the rsa keys.

This is a known problem and supposedly will be fixed.

All that said, SSO failover works well. Failover time is around 1 second for me. I just can't leave it unattended in SSO mode. If you want to failover to move hardware, just change to SSO, fail it over, regen the keys, and switch it back to RPR when done.
